Although Page is flawless as her usual flexible-faced, poor soul role, the material didn’t allow her to quite make it up to her classic role as Carrie Berniers.

A Christmas Memory is the story of two best friends, a seven-year-old boy, called Bud (Donnie Melvin), and his elderly, spinster, cousin Sook, played by Geraldine Page. It was originally aired as one of the parts of a 1969 TV presentation called Trilogy (The other two being Capote’s short stories Among the Paths to Eden, and Miriam). It is based on a Truman Capote story, but get that out of your mind when you watch it unfortunately, he narrates. A Christmas Memory (1997) is a sweet and sad TV film it is hard to tell which adjective predominates, but I would suggest the latter.
